What is the most energy-efficient roof?

There are many roofing products that have been rated Energy Star. However, there are differences between roof types. Here is a quick overview of the information you should know.

There are many different types of roofs. Metal roofs are one of the most durable and energy-efficient roofing options available. Metal roofing is the most energy-efficient roof for residential installation. It can last up to 50 years and requires very little maintenance.

The metal roofs that are too hot to touch are highly reflective. The roof reflects a lot of sunlight. This means that they have a very high SRI.

They can also be coated with special coatings for an even greater efficiency rating. Tile roofs can also be an energy-efficient choice. Slate, concrete, or clay can be used to make them. Pre-treatment can maximize heat reflection. Don’t worry if they’ve been installed. Even after installation, they can still be treated with reflective finishes.

The air that flows under the tiles also helps to dissipate any heat they may absorb. Asphalt shingles are one of the most popular roofing materials used for homes. They are also traditionally one of the least reflective and heat-absorbent roof options.

This has fortunately changed over the past few years. Asphalt shingles are now more efficient than they ever were before thanks to advances in roofing technology.

Manufacturers are now creating asphalt shingles that have solar-reflective granules. This increases the SRI and can even prolong the roof’s life by keeping the surface temperature low.

Owens Corning’s “Cool Roof Collection” is an excellent example. This collection includes shingles that have a reflectance of over 20. These shingles are available in darker colors, which are usually associated with lower solar reflectance values.

Many asphalt shingles do not have these energy-efficient features. Asphalt shingle roofs without solar-reflecting grains can be up to 100 degrees warmer. This heat will transfer to your attic and eventually into your home.
